The 2020 Corton Les Renards Grand Cru includes 50% whole cluster fruit. The bouquet is more complex and better defined than the Clos du Roi with plenty of earthy red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, graphite-tinged red fruit, fine backbone with a little more grip on the finish. Excellent. (Drink between 2025-2050)
Once again the nose manages to be both very ripe yet fresh with its combination of black cherry liqueur, poached plum and mocha scents. There is fine underlying tension to the delicious, textured and sappy big-bodied flavors that culminate in a youthfully austere, compact and very tightly wound finale. Like several wines in the range, this will need to develop better depth to achieve the upper end of my projected range, but the structure is present for that to occur. (Drink starting 2035)
