Ultreia La Vitoriana, Bodegas y Viñedos Raul Perez 2021

Tasting Notes

The 2021 Ultreia La Vitoriana shows some unusual toasty notes, hints of raw meat and lots of tannins, and this is the more tannic of the Ultreia range even if they lower the intensity here. The wine is a bit wild, 90% from clay and 10% sand (while La Vizcaína is mostly sand). It fermented with 100% full clusters in a chestnut vat with indigenous yeasts. This north part of the vineyard produced only two barrels, and the barrels were well-seasoned to avoid oak in the wine. This is a powerful wine that is going to need time. It opens up nicely with time in the glass.
