The 2019 Monthélie Aux Fournereaux is a super effort that transcends what's generally produced in this appellation. Wafting from the glass with aromas of cassis, sweet berries, woodsmoke and loamy soil, it's medium to full-bodied, lively and concentrated, with real mid-palate depth and a long, mouthwatering finish. This is well worth seeking out.
There is a touch of post-bottling reduction that is enough to mask the underlying fruit at present so a thorough aeration should help. Otherwise there is very good freshness and verve to the caressing middle weight flavors that terminate in a somber if sneaky long finish. I would let this sit for at least a few years at it's a bit grumpy today.
