Tasting Notes

The 2022 Mâcon-Pierreclos 1er Jus de Chavigne has turned out beautifully, wafting from the glass with aromas of waxy citrus fruit, white peach, buttery pastry and freshly baked bread. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and seamless, it's racy and intense, with a tangy spine of acidity that carries through the long, saline finish. As ever, "1er Jus" indicates that this cuvée is produced with the free-run and first-press juice (which is lower in pH and higher in acidity, bringing more tension) from the Chavigne vineyard. 2025 - 2045

The 2022 Premier Jus is just fantastic, managing to be both deep and serious, yet joyful and full of flair. The nose is bold, juicy and ripe with notes of peach, mango and and confit citrus. There is a light smokiness of reduction and a layer of sophisticated, subtle wood smoke, but the fruit is what shines through. The palate is silky smooth with broad, fleshy orchard fruits. The striking acidity brings depth, taming the exuberance and bringing great focus to the wine. Lightly smoky with wood spice and flint throughout, this is a brilliant effort from barrel at this very early stage; with full elevage it should be even better. The screws tighten on the finish with a hit of acidity and waves of ripe fruit. This has great promise.

Thomas Parker MW, Farr Vintners, March 2023

The 2022 Mâcon-Pierreclos 1er Jus de Chavigne is a brilliant young wine in the making, unfurling in the glass with aromas of citrus zest, white flowers and crisp stone fruit, thrown into relief by subtly exotic top notes. Medium to full-bodied, racy and tensile, it's concentrated and incisive, concluding with a chalky, almost electric finish. Chavigne always over-performs in warm vintages, and 2022 is no exception.
