The 2022 Pouilly-Fuissé La Roche is brilliant, offering up aromas of pear, toasted nuts, freshly baked bread and iodine, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive palate underpinned by bright acids and concluding with a long, saline finish. This cuvée is invariably one of Verget's best, and the 2022 is on fine form. 2025 - 2042
This great Premier Cru vineyard faces South-East and is certainly one of the stars of Pouilly Fuisse. The wines are always mineral despite great richness. A wine to serve blind next to a Meursault at three times the price. Silverish straw in the glass, this has a great nose already, layering struck match reduction with zesty citrus and riper peach fruit. The palate has beautiful balance, fleshy with stone fruit yet steely with fresh citrus. Pithy texture suggests real ageing potential together with a deep, almost saline energy. This has gained weight and complexity in bottle, and is hugely impressive. A multi-dimensional La Roche. This will drink well for over a decade with ease. Brilliant.
