Pierre Peters L'Etonnant Monsieur Victor Edition MK13 Mixed Vintage

Tasting Notes

The NV Brut L'Etonnant Monsieur Victor (2013 base) is a blend of equal parts 2013 Chétillons and 2012 Réserve Oubliée, aged on cork. That blend yields a rich, textured Champagne loaded with aromatic and flavor complexity. Lemon confit, chamomile, dried flowers and spice are some of the many nuances that infuse this release with so much character. The 2013 Monsieur Victor is a bit more forward than the 2013 Chétillons and Montjolys, which makes sense because of the reserve portion. I would prefer to drink it over the next decade or so, preferably at the dinner table, as it is a Champagne of tremendous substance and depth. Dosage is 3.5-4.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: December, 2019.

Scents of citrus oil, mint, peach, toasted walnuts, orange oil and freshly baked sourdough introduce Péters's NV L’Étonnant Monsieur Victor Edition MK 13, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping wine that's tangy and incisive thanks to its 2013 base vintage, but where that year's youthful austerity is masterfully complemented by reserve wines to bring this cuvée more immediate plenitude. This has turned out very nicely indeed.
