Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Rosé 2009

Tasting Notes

The 2009 Brut Comtes de Champagne Rosé is a rich, gourmand rendition of this cuvée, bursting with aromas of sweet red plums, buttery pastry, tangerine and baking spices. Full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with a broad attack and a layered, enveloping mid-palate that's girdled by ripe acids, it already offers demonstrative drinking. This has turned out brilliantly.

Mid salmon in colour, the nose here mixes nutty oxidative tones with layered white strawberry and fresh peach fruit. The palate is ripe and round, with a light pithyness against a creamy mousse. Succulent, bursting with dried red fruits and a little ripe stone fruit, there is a smoky, toasted richness from the lees ageing. Creamy, polished and generous to the end, this is open-knit and ready to drink - a welcoming style against the tighter and more mineral 2008.

A beautiful color of bronze and orange with some pink at the end. Aromas of dried strawberry and orange peel with orange blossom and other flowers. Medium to full body with a round, creamy texture, very fine bubbles and a lovely, long finish. Plenty of subtle pie-crust and biscuit flavors at the end. Yet it remains so complex. Very vinous. Drink or hold.

All going in the same direction. Same dosage as 2007 and 2008: 9 g/l. Trial disgorgement in July 2018. More Chardonnay.

Deep orangey strawberry colour. Refined, this seems drier than some Comtes, and manages to be both opulent and fresh with a grapefruit-peel sensation. This was judged an excellent year for rosé but there is no Comtes Blanc de Blancs in 2009. The Chardonnay was a bit too heavy. Very promising. Fine tannins.
