Unwinding in the glass with aromas of pear, citrus oil, buttered toast and vanilla pod, the 2021 Mâcon-Pierreclos Lieu Sécret is medium to full-bodied, elegantly textural and vibrant, with a satiny attack that segues into a racy mid-palate and a mineral finish.
Coming from plots in Pierreclos near the Domaine Guffens-Heynen holdings, Lieu Secret has quickly established itself as a favourite in the line-up since its inception in 2018. Pale lemon in colour, it has an easy richness of stone fruit and a little pineapple and melon on the nose. This follows in the palate, which is fuller, riper and rounder than many of the Verget 2021s. Fleshy and succulent, the generous fruit is tamed by bright acidity. Layers of cream and spice add complexity on the finish, which is smooth and glossy. Approachable now, it will drink well over the next 5-7 years.
