The 1991 Flaccianello della Pieve is another surprise from a long forgotten vintage. At 20+ years of age, the 1991 has aged very well. There is an element of rusticity in the aromas and flavors, yet at the same time the 1991 still boasts considerable depth, power and vibrancy. Dark cherries, licorice and smoke linger on the finish. The 1991 isn’t a legendary Flaccianello by any means, but it is nevertheless surprisingly outstanding. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2016.
