Under the same family ownership since the 1400s, wine was not produced at the property until the late 1700s. The largest vineyard site in Pomerol at nearly 50 hectares, planted very rarely in one continuous parcel with a majority Merlot and a little of each Cabernet. There remain another 45 hectares left as forest and parkland. Fermented and matured in large concrete vats for 12-14 months ahead of a further ageing in barrel of various size and age for 6 months for 50% of the wine. Mid ruby colour with aromas turning to savoury cedar and lightly dried cherries - it shows clear Merlot typicity. Soft and seductive red fruit form the fruit core, layered by hints of leather and spice box. The tannins have fully melted into the wine, it is spherical yet fresh, a combact ball for fruit that lingers on the finish. Retaining just enough savoury character throughout, it should provide easy enjoyment over the mid-term.
