The 2020 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot) is excellent, mingling aromas of cherries and raspberries with notions of raw cocoa, orange rind, warm spices and smoke. Full-bodied, velvety and layered, it's deep and concentrated, with powdery tannins, bright acids and a long, resonant finish.
The last vintage before pulling out the vines, with the likelihood that in due course Pougets will be replanted in chardonnay to make Corton-Charlemagne. Very dark purple and heady on the nose. Is it in balance? Plump and juicy on the palate, a bold expression of super ripe dark cherries, slightly more tannin, not quite sure of the equilibrium. Tasted: November 2021
Mid ruby colour. Earthy and wild on the nose, full of hedgerow fruit and savoury spices. The palate is broad-shouldered, defined by its tannic structure at this early stage. With air, ripe, dark fruit comes through. This is guarded and very youthful. Once it sheds the hard edges it should make for serious, savoury and classic Corton.
