Tasting Notes

Initial reductive and smoky notes open up to red fruit, plum stones, olives, herbs and oyster mushrooms. Medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins. Lots going on here, with textured, herbal and savory character. From organically grown grapes. Drink now or hold. Screw cap.

A barrel selection of organically grown Pinot Noir from Central Otago, the Estate is made from low-cropped high density plantings that are hand harvested. Roughly 50% whole bunch fermentation on indigenous yeasts ahead of 10 month barrel ageing in a blend of used and new (roughly 20%) oak barrels. Bright ruby colour in the glass. The nose is chock full of airy red fruits - strawberries, plums and raspberries - together with hints of spice and woody herbs. The palate is fine, juicy and soft, the succulent red fruit broad and up front. The tannins are fully melted into the wine, allowing the fruit to shine, but there is enough bright acidity to keep everything fresh. A lick of spice complements this vibrant fruit on a moreish finish. The structure makes this delicious drinking now, and it should provide real drinking pleasure over the next 5-8 years.
