Tasting Notes

Here too the wood isn't subtle though it's by no means intrusive, just noticeable, on the fresh and pretty blend of red currant, plum, violet and softly spiced aromas where a hint of herbal tea lurks in the background. There is slightly better richness and definitely more salinity to the medium-bodied flavors that offer a step up in depth and persistence on the more well-balanced finale. This is lovely stuff and a wine that could be enjoyed young or with up to a decade of aging. Drink: 2026+

Allen Meadows, Burghound.com (77), January 2020

The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Petite Chapelle 1er Cru, which contains around 50 to 60% whole bunches, has a very focused bouquet with brine-tinged black fruit that are beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, a fine bead of acidity, touches of graphite infusing the black fruit with a short(ish) but precise finish. Enjoy over the next decade. 2020 - 2030

Neal Martin, vinous.com, January 2019

Vinified with over half whole clusters, the 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Petite Chapelle offers up a pretty bouquet of cassis, dark chocolate and rich soil tones. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, mineral and tensile, with lovely purity and very fine-grained tannins underpinned by tangy acids.
