Vosne Romanee 1er Cru, Domaine Coquard Loison-Fleurot 2019

Tasting Notes

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru, from 80-year-old vines, is made with 15% whole bunch and aged in 50% new oak. Very pure on the nose of small black cherries, blueberry and light violet aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a finely judged seam of acidity and quite an intense black cherry and boysenberry finish. Lovely silky texture here, although maybe it does not quite deliver the complexity of the very best vintages that I have tasted. 2024-2040

To remind, this is a blend of 1er cru Beauxmonts and the continuation of those rows into Grand Cru Echezeaux. A fresh bright mid purple. The bouquet does not want to come out to play today. The wine starts quietly on the palate then bursts forward, there is a blacker note to the fruit this year, with good persistence. Tasted: November 2020
