Tasting Notes

The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Clos de la Garenne 1er Cru, which comes from cordon-trained vines up to 85 years old, has a very different bouquet from the La Garenne – more tropical tones here, powerful, with peach, grapefruit, and passion fruit. The palate is slightly honeyed on the entry with a waxy texture, spicier than the La Garenne. The weighty, concentrated finish lingers in the mouth. No shy retiring wallflower, this will be intriguing to watch evolve in bottle. Excellent.

Mid lemon and lime, with an immediate sweetness of fruit. Very juicy, lemon notes on the palate through what is essentially white fruit, balanced and persistent. Not too much sign of the heat here. Tasted: October 2020

Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy, December 2020

The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Garenne (Duc de Magenta) opens in the glass with scents of honeyed pear, white flowers, baking spices and vanilla pod. Medium to full-bodied, rich and layered, it's fleshy and concentrated, with lively acids and a toasty, oak-inflected finish.
