The domaine’s holding consist of 8 rows of 45 year old vines from top to bottom, hence taking in both colours of soil. Medium deep purple, lighter rim. Sublime nose, some myrtilles, hedgerows, complex. Balanced and with both purity and intense energy at the back, mauve to purple fruit. Starts like Clos de la Roche but finishes with greater intensity. Tasted: November 2018.
The Arlauds' 0.2ha holdings are located on red and white soils on the Chambolle side of the grand cru, despite the fact that their cellar is in Morey-St-Denis. This is a brilliant expression of the terroir, with a winning combination of perfume, intensity and underlying grip. It's nuanced and complex, with the structure to age. (Drink between 2025-2032)
Here too there is moderate wood influence present on the essence of red currant, cherry, pomegranate and warm earth-suffused aromas. Once again there is both good volume and fine mid-palate concentration along with lovely balanced and persistence on the somewhat woody finish. Like the CSD, this is a bit woody today but the underlying material is such that it should ultimately be successfully integrated. Note: from a .24 ha parcel of 35+ year old vines Drink: 2032+
