The second wine of La Mission Haut Brion. Some of the fruit from the now defunct La Tour Haut Brion vineyard is included in this wine as well as that of the younger vines of La Mission. The blend this year is 51.6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7.6% Cabernet Franc and 40.8% Merlot.
The 2019 La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion is composed of 50.1% Merlot, 45.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 4.4% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple colored, it unfurls slowly to reveal vibrant, cheery notes of crushed red and black cherries, cassis, and mulberries with touches of mossy tree bark and aniseed. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is firm and finely grained with red and black fruit layers and a fragrant finish.
Unwinding in the glass with aromas of dark berries, orange rind and rich spices, framed by a deft application of cedary new oak, the 2019 La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion is medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with lively acids and a more tightly wound profile than its counterpart across the street. 2027 - 2055
Restrained, finessed and sculpted, this is a wine that I highly recommend in the 2019 vintage. Blueberry and creamy blackberry fruits, given nuance with fragrant violet and peony, alongside flint and gunsmoke. Delicious, a brilliant stepping stone to La Mission Haut-Brion but absolutely standing on its own. Bottled May 2021. Harvest finished October 4. 27% of production.
Tasted blind. Intense, well balanced and an interesting nose. Lots of sweetness, but freshness too, in this extremely youthful wine. Difficult to assess at this stage … 14.5%

– 2045
The second wine from this great estate, the 2019 La Chapelle De La Mission Haut-Brion is based on 50% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the balance Cabernet Franc. It might be the second wine of the vintage and has plenty of classic La Mission sexiness and opulence as well as textbook notes of sweet red and black currants, tobacco leaf, exotic spice, acacia flowers, and lead pencil. Full-bodied, round, expansive, and powerful, yet also light on its feet and flawlessly balanced, it's a stunning Pessac in its own right to enjoy over the coming 20 years or so.
