This tiny, 2 hectare vineyard - a partial enclave of Pavie Decesse - is owned by Gerard Perse of Chateau Pavie and is in effect a "vin de garage" type micro-cuvée that is often even more concentrated than Pavie itself. This blend of 90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon is matured in 100% new oak. The yield in 2018 was 30 hl/ha with alcohol at 14.56%.

Tasting Notes

This is dense and layered, but with very fine, creamy tannins. Weightless and punchy from the bright acidity. Vivid and long. Tight at the end, but then kicks off with minerality and stone. 90% merlot, 5% cabernet franc and 5% cabernet sauvignon. Try after 2025.

The 2019 Bellevue Mondotte is made from 90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. There is a bit more depth of clay in the vineyard here, before the reaching the limestone. Deep garnet-purple colored, it rolls out with decadent scents of plum preserves, baked black cherries, and mulberries, leading to hints of star anise, clove oil, cumin seed, and lilacs. Big, rich, and full-bodied, the palate has opulent fruit with velvety tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and spicy.

More seamless and elegant than the more powerful, structured Pavie Decesse (these all emerge from the Perse team), the Merlot-dominated 2019 Bellevue Mondotte just about jumps out of the glass with its ripe, spicy red, blue, and black fruits as well as spring flowers, graphite, chalky mineral, and violet-like aromas and flavors. Almost Pomerol-like with its seamless, polished tannins and gorgeous mouthfeel, it's flawlessly balanced, has a deep, layered mid-palate, and a great, great finish. This stunning Saint-Emilion will benefit from just 4-6 years of bottle age and cruise for 30+ years in cold cellars.

The purity of fruit is impressive here with crushed blackberries, blueberries and dark chocolate with some coffee. It’s full-bodied, yet integrated and chewy. Rich finish.
