Pouilly Fuisse Les Crays, Verget 2019

Tasting Notes

The 2019 Pouilly-Fuissé Les Crays is very pretty, mingling aromas of buttered orchard fruit, almond paste and fresh peach in an inviting bouquet. Medium to full-bodied, textural and fleshy, it's bright and lively, with tangy acids and a nicely defined finish.

In 2019 the fruit from the best part of the Crays in Vergisson was vinified separately to create a single vineyard cuvee for the first time. Coming only from free run juice, it was totally fermented in barrels with 25% new oak. The wines produced on this terroir can be a little austere and heavy. To avoid this, Verget used juice with very little settling and very rich in lees. Fermentations finished at the beginning of December and the barrel ageing lasted about 7 months following fermentation. Bright lemon in colour with buttery, spicy notes from the oak intermingling with ripe peaches. The palate is fleshy and rounded, with sumptuos, ripe peach and a hint of pineapple mixing with the toasted spices. Toasty, full and long to the finish.
