Vosne Romanée, Domaine Jean Grivot 2016

Tasting Notes

(made from 12 parcels encompassing 7 different terroirs, according to Grivot): Bright, dark red. Aromas of black cherry and cocoa powder. Juicy and energetic, showing lovely inner-mouth lift and refinement to its flavors of black fruits, licorice, violet and cocoa powder. Quite tightly wound on the sappy back end, spreading out subtly and leaving behind vibrant note of spices and black pepper.

The 2016 Vosne-Romanée Village has a much lighter bouquet than the 2015 last year, with scents of wild strawberry and wet stone, quite conservative in style. The palate is well balanced with a grainy entry, a fresh line of acidity, quite compact with a very linear and straight-laced finish that just needs to flesh out during the remainder of its élevage.

A blend from 12 different vineyards – 20% on white soils near Nuits-St-George and 80% behind their house in the middle of the village and north of it. Bright cherry red. Soars out of the glass. Very sweet start but lots of energy. Very pure. Chalky texture on the end. Crunchy fruit. (Drink between 2020-2028)
