This small Barsac property was recently purchased by Jean-Marie Guffens from Burgundy. The cuvée "Clos Bonneau" will be matured in 50% new oak and produce 500 cases
The 2018 Bonneau is performing brilliantly, exhibiting complex aromas of beeswax, barley sugar, mandarin orange, apricots and spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, sumptuous and enveloping palate, with a satiny attack and a bright spine of acidity. Concluding with a long, botrytis-inflected finish, it's another compelling wine from Jean-Marie Guffens. Drink 2025-2065.
Located in Barsac, this estate was one of the last to pick at end the of October/early November. Bright and pale gold colored, the 2018 Clos Bonneau comes tripping out of the glass with wonderful botrytis-inspired notions of beeswax, fungi and musk perfume over a core of lemon marmalade, citrus peel, dried apricots and allspice plus wafts of candied ginger and preserved kumquats. Full, rich, seductive and totally opulent, the palate delivers wonderful freshness cutting through the intense flavors, finishing spicy.
At 165g/l, this is one of the sweeter 2018 Sauternes and shows with honey, dried apricots and sweet spices on the nose. Viscous, rich and powerful, lashings of ripe and candied fruits come through on the palate, taming any oak spices and allowing the fruit to shine. Despite the unctuous and opulent texture, there is cut of acidity to bring balance. Long, powerful and rich on the finish.
Il retranscrit à merveille le minéralité de Barsac, le parfum de pierre à feu. Puissant avec un fruit charnu, bien mûr. Il est tout en énergie et en volume. Equilibre magistral.

This wonderfully showcases Barsac's minerality, with a nose of struck flint. Powerful with fleshy, ripe fruit. This is all about energy and volume. Magnificent balance.
