The 2016 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is showing very well, wafting from the glass with aromas of red plums, candied peel, exotic spices, dark chocolate and creamy new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied with a deep core, considerable extract and vibrant acids, framed by notably fine-grained tannins that are very promising for its future evolution. Clerget produced three barrels, one of which was new.

Enough wood to comment on frames the spicy and distinctly earthy aromas of plum and black cherry laced with a hint of game. There is outstanding volume to the racy, intense and muscular flavors that possess both good minerality and a polished mouth feel while displaying excellent persistence on the youthfully austere, dusty and harmonious finale. Here too extended patience will be necessary.
