Brunate - 93 points:
The 2008 Barolo Brunate flows onto the palate with layers of dark fruit, spices, menthol and licorice. It is an unsually plush, generous wine for the year endowed with tons of grace and sheer depth. This is a fabulous, layered Brunate that should drink well with a few more years in the bottle. Layers of sweet, perfumed fruit, rose petals and spices build effortlessly to the gracious, elegant finish. The Brunate is brooding and tannic, but the wine softens a bit with air.
Lazzarito - 93+ points:
The 2008 Barolo Lazzarito comes across as remarkably primary. Dark red fruit, iron, tar, smoke, wild flowers and minerals are all wrapped aroud a serious intense, mid-palate and finish. Today the 2008 comes across as a bit tightly wound, but that is the personality of the year. The balance of fruit, structure and oak is superb. Layers of fruit flow through to the firm, authoritative finish. This is impressive juice.
Rocche - 98 points:
Vietti’s 2008 Barolo Rocche is once again stellar. What a wine. Intensely aromatic and racy, with beautifully layered fruit, the 2008 is a superb example of this great Barolo vintage. Sweet red cherry, plum, hard candy and spices give the 2008 much of its perfumed, silky personality.
