Tasting Notes

The 2016 Acte 8 from the Guinaudeau family is a blend of 52% Merlot and 48% Cabernet Franc picked on 10 and 15 October, respectively. It has an attractive bouquet with blackberry, briary and a tang of seaweed, all with fine vigor. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip on the entry, a fine line of acidity, sappier than previous "Acte" releases with a gentle grip: blackberry and bilberry, a touch of spice on the muscular finish. There is some hardness here although that will soften during its barrel maturation and then in bottle.

Blackberry, blueberry and orange-peel aromas. Full-bodied, round and powerful. Very layered and rich. So harmonious. A triumph from here. 50 per cent cabernet franc and 50 per cent merlot. Drink from 2022.

The 2016 L'Acte 8 is another tremendous wine from the Guinaudeau family's Fronsac estate. Rich, sumptuous and inviting, the 2016 hits all the right notes. The purity of the fruit here is mind-blowing, but the wine is equally captivating for its textural beauty. I am not sure how the 2016 will age, but today it is a total pleasure bomb.
