This is the dry white wine that has been made in small quantities at Mouton Rothschild since the first vintage in 1991. Produced from 55% Sauvignon Blanc, 43% Semillon and 2% Muscadelle in the vineyard.
The aromas of dried pineapple and mangoes dominate the nose with hints of macaroons and cooked apples. Full-bodied, dense and tannic with serious thickness. It’s layered, extremely long and chewy with a powerful and ripe finish. Exotic, wild wine with large presence. Why wait?
Blended of 53% Sauvignon Blanc, 46% Sémillon and 1% Muscadelle, the 2016 Aile d'Argent comes charging forth with tropical fruit notes of guava and pineapple plus peach preserves, lemongrass, candied ginger and orange blossoms with a waft of clover honey. Medium-bodied, the palate is broad and rich with just enough freshness, finishing on a savory note. 2019 - 2028
Another success for the white wines of the Médoc, this is lovely with true freshness expertly pulled together under tension, contrasting with the roundness through the mid-palate. Clear, fleshy white peach and soft citrus is pulled in on the finish by a lick of wet stone. 53% Sauvignon Blanc, 46% Semillon and 1% Muscadelle. 27% of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation to ensure a creamy character to the body.
Quite exotic and spicy. Lean and green underneath and a flavour that reminds me of the figgy character of Napa Valley Sauvignon (but not the weight or sweetness). Racy and sinewy and much more streamlined than it once was. Good power.
Drink 2020-2027
The nose is fresh quite tight the fruit on the palate richer with a tropical fruit mix in the middle. Apple and citrus underpin fresh at the back the finish is tight and mineral. 2019-30
Always among my favourite white Bordeaux, this is a wine that is beautifully judged in 2016, with just the right balance between fruit, oak and acidity. Leesy, creamy and subtly toasty, it has lemongrass and grapefruit flavours and a lick of crème fraîche. 2018-23
The 2016 Aile d'Argent Blanc is a blend of 52% Sauvignon Blanc, 46% Sémillon and 2% Muscadelle. Philippe Dhalluin told me that there was more malolactic this year, around 27% of the wine going through complete malolactic fermentation. It has an attractive nose of lime flower, granite and orange blossom aromas, a touch of pineapple cordial developing with time. The palate is very well balanced with crisp acidity, tensile and precise with impressive focus. This is another a deep or powerful Aile d'Argent, but I admire the precision on display here. Drink 2019 - 2029.
A fresh and fruity white with sliced-pear and apple character. Undertones of pineapple. Full-bodied, savory and round-textured wine. Delicious.
