A superb value for Jean-Hubert Delon, the 2005 Potensac has a deep ruby/purple color, a classic bouquet of sweet red and black fruits, as well as gorgeous texture and purity. Medium-bodied and concentrated, this wine behaves like a Medoc cru classe. Moreover, it will age very well for 10-15 years. Very impressive!
The Château Potensac 2005 sports a clear garnet colour. The nose is modest at first, but nicely defined with blackberry and raspberry fruit, candied orange peel emerging from the background hand in hand with cedar scents. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin and quite noticable acidity. Backward and a litle surly on the finish, this needs another three or four years to come around.
Mid purplish crimson. A little vegy but well judged and VGV. Solid but just coming round. 13.5%
Drink 2018-2030
Medium red. Very ripe, sweet aromas of plum, mocha and bitter chocolate. Unusually sweet and supple for this wine, with lovely depth and volume to its cassis and chocolate flavors. Very St. Estephe in style. Finishes powerful, sweet and long, with the unusually fine tannins arriving late. An outstanding performance for this chateau.
Fine deep cassis fruit, quite full, grippy and long, the Saint-Julien of the Médoc. Drink 2009-16.
Robert Parker scored this wine but space limitations did not allow him to publish tasting notes. He did, however, write about this wine and all the other cru bourgeois that he scored that: "2005 is the finest vintage for these wines since 1982. The range of scores for these wines should give readers an idea of just how consistent this vintage is at this level. Given the style of the vintage, most of these wines should be accessible young yet evolve for a decade or more because of their concentration and tannic structure."
Currants, minerals and berries follow through to a full bodied palate, with silky tannins and a long, rich finish. Slightly one-dimensional but well done. Another 2003 and 2000.
Not desperately concentrated in colour. Quite light on the nose but good balance of fresh fruit on the palate though pretty severe oaking regime for fruit without that much intensity. Very correct but no more charm than usual! No display of extra ripeness from the year. Drink 2014-20
