This vineyard sits above Mate's Vineyard and has a combination of ripeness with vibrant acid-fuelled energy. The nose heads into some quite exotic territory, showing fine limes and lemon zest, floral and perfumed ethereal aromas and some richer orange fruits. The palate's succulent and curvaceous; it really offers fleshy impact on first sip and then whips into a taut, long finish. Clever wine from a great site.
The 2014 Hunting Hill Chardonnay has a white peach, spiced apple and honeyed pear nose with hints of ginger, brioche and almonds. Medium-bodied, the silken textured palate gives layer upon layer of stone fruit and savoury flavors plus excellent persistence.
Honeysuckle and herbal freshness there is a lot happening on the nose the palate has depth ripe white peach and pear underpinned by tangerine layers of flavour. Richness at the back intensity of flavour supple and fleshy but it finishes lean, long and mineral. 2018-26
Finally a vintage of Hunting Hill where you feel the vineyard drops its guard and shows you a snippet of its inner heart. Complex and alluring, multi-dimensional with wet chalk, sweet lemon citrus and boxwood spice and resinous green honeydew melon. Palate shows wonderful concentration, crystalline purity, a full and fleshy palate and the most seductive, sweet – sour, saline length. Great expectations for the 2014 and it does not fail to deliver.
Light and a little shy on the nose. Broad and friendly on the palate. Molten texture. Lots of grace notes and excitement. Dense and long with a light floral note. Still quite chewy.
Drink 2018-2032
Stunning nose of citrus blossom. Certainly not the most powerful or dramatic chardonnay out there, but there’s great finesse here, the fruit and oak beautifully integrated through the very long finish that's as fresh as a mountain stream. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
