The 1978 Banyuls from Domaine du Duy is more oxidative on the nose compared to the 1982, with notes of nutmeg, wax resin, marmalade and dried flowers, all well defined. The palate is actually better than the nose, principally because of the acidity and tension running from start to finish. It delivers a healthy dash of black pepper on the entry, plenty of hazelnut and there is also a little more heat on the finish compared to the 1982. This is a Banyuls for a winter's night!
