**Note: only 200 bottles will be produced from a .055 ha parcel of 80 year old vines - vinified with 100% of the stems**
The most aromatically complex wine here with a kaleidoscopic array of red and black fruits, spice, iron, earth, herbs and that wonderful gamey quality great Chambertin often gets followed by very sweet, sappy and deep old viney flavors that are both huge and extremely powerful, all wrapped in buckets of sap. This is a very ripe wine yet it retains its focus and precision with more minerality than this wine usually displays. A great, great effort and without a doubt, this is one of the wines of the vintage. This will age for two decades, perhaps longer.
From a very old parcel (80+ years old) planted at a density of 14,000 vines per hectare, the 2003 Chambertin is produced in such minuscule quantities (only 140 liters - or 185 bottles - in 2003) that only the well-connected super wealthy can have a chance of ever buying it. Its wax, black cherry, blackberry, cassis, and black raspberry aromas lead to a full-bodied personality of unreal intensity. Powerful, hugely concentrated, deep, as well as with a focus rarely found in this vintage's wines, this behemoth reveals oodles of licorice, chocolate, and black fruit flavors that linger in its exceedingly long finish. Projected maturity: 2009-2022+.
