Gevrey Chambertin Cazetiers, Domaine Faiveley 2010

Tasting Notes

Good bright medium red. Pure, precise aromas of red cherry, raspberry, crushed rock, rose petal, white pepper and blood orange--and no doubt some other high-pitched notes only a dog can hear. Juicy, intense and taut but not hard, with captivating orange zest lift to the red fruit and crushed stone flavors. This weightless wine shows little sign of Gevrey earthiness; in fact, I would have picked it blind as a top Chambolle premier cru. The penetrating finish features subtle lingering perfume and outstanding retention of fresh fruit. This should gain in complexity and texture over the next decade or two.

A brilliantly layered nose of impressive depth and breadth speaks of similar aromas as the Combe Aux Moines though this is more Gevrey in character. This is a powerful wine with plenty of mid-palate concentration to the amazingly rich, intense and tautly muscular flavors that culminate in a mouth coating, balanced and astonishingly long finish. A classic Cazetiers with everything that it needs to reward 15+ years of cellar time. Drink: 2025+
