La Mouline 1999
This is a less famous vintage for the Northern Rhone winery but showing beautifully now. Aromas of dried fruits, smoked meat and balsamic. Full body, round and velvety tannins and a flavorful finish. Just right now. A savory and juicy wine. Drink now.
La Mouline 1999
Dark crimson with some age at the rim. Intense nose of warm leather. The merest hint of brett. Vibrating with fruit and with the patina of age. I wouldn't keep it that much longer.
La Turque 1999
Incredible sense of purity in the fruit. The wine is completely seamless from start to finish. The texture blends pure silk and velvet, with exotic sensations. The finish keeps you on target for over 60 seconds. There is not much more you can ask of any wine.
La Landonne 1999
Deep purple. These last three reds were served in the reverse order and gave us a lesson in the increasing concentration and oak influence of the wines over time. This was the most focussed. Deep purple. Extremely fresh and dense and energetic yet velvety. Some liquorice. Dramatic but a bit drying on the finish.
La Turque 1999
Exceptionally deep crimson. Very sweet and intense on the nose. Heady, obviously oaky, but like an exotic, irresistible tincture. Round and worked and ultimately perhaps very slightly soulless but it is designed to give pleasure and it does. The tannins are very well managed. Round and broad but furled for the future.
La Landonne 1999
Fresh black cherry liqueur, smoke, licorice, truffle, black pepper, forest floor and mint aromatics create the intoxicating nose. Intense, full bodied, concentrated and deep, this is all balanced out with its refinement, harmony and seemingly endless length. Youthful, yet a treat to drink with a few hours of air.
La Mouline 1999
With insane levels of concentration, intensity and tension, the explosive perfume displays flowers, smoke, kirsch liqueur, earth and black cherries galore. If you think that's where the fun stops, think again. The wine coats your palate with waves of perfectly ripe, dense, fresh, red and black fruits that never seem to quit.
