Offering lots of seaweed and marine-like saltiness and minerality, the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Vieilles Vignes is full-bodied, structured and concentrated, with lots of ripe red and black fruits, ripe tannin and a great mid-palate. It will have two decades of longevity.
The 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Vieilles Vignes (90% Grenache and 10% Mourvedre from the limestone and clay soils of the famed La Crau sector) spent time in tank (90%) and barrel (10%). Abundant notes of kirsch liqueur, balsam wood, underbrush and lavender soar from the glass of this deep, saturated, dark ruby/purple-tinged wine. Full-bodied and elegant with outstanding purity, depth and ripe tannins, this 2009 should easily last a decade or more.
