TA 15.5 g/l, RS 580 g/l. 2,050 bottles.
Mahogany colour akin to old oloroso. Staining the glass. Deep aromas of old books and earth dominate the nose. Caramelised sugars give the palate a deeply rich and unctuous texture. Very, very concentrated, a real bruiser on the palate. It feels a little more nutty and certainly mature in character, but the acidity comes to the rescue in a rush on the finish, lifting everything and making you want more. From spoon, this has the density but loses some of its charm, seeming more mature. With air and from the glass this wine really grows. It is a monolith but very impressive. (TP)
The essence of orange blossom, dried apricot, tobacco and butterscotcharomas and flavors. This is thick and viscous, with a vivid structure and a saturated finish. Intensely sweet. A drop goes a long way. Drink now through 2050.
The presentation - individually numbered bottles, in a brass-hinged wooden case, with its own traditional crystal spoon - is the first sign that this is something very special. The Essencia is the rarest of all Tokaji and has a richness and complexity that makes it truly unique. The extremely high sugar levels (85% residual sugar) are expertly balanced by the fresh citrus acids, helping to retain a clean fruit focus and balanced palate. A truly legendary wine, and the pinnacle of winemaking in this region.
"Oh. My. God Those are the three words you will utter as this ultra-gloopy nectar seems to stick itself to the sides of your glass. Coming in at a…drum-roll please…2.1% ABV, it has a sensational bouquet that is so pure and visceral with orange liqueur, white flowers, passion fruit, marmalade, quince jus and apricots, then in the background…warm gingerbread! The palate is fat, viscous, thick and syrupy, struck through with razor-sharp acidity that makes this super-rare Essencia the real deal. It will outlast you and I, trust me. Brilliant. Drink now-3000.
