A revelation. So deep in hue, it is hard to believe this is a Pinot Noir, let alone with over 30 years of age. Still so fresh and vibrant on the nose, the palate is driven by a pristine dark-fruit character. Indeed, Clive Coates MW notes that Clos des Lambrays is black fruit-orientated whereas Clos du Tart tends to show more redfruit characters. The palate is monumentally concentrated with huge length, ripe-fruit sweetness and a great balance between acidity and luxurious tannins, interwoven with intense spice notes. This bottle was shipped from the estate, so it should have been as good as it can be. A magnificent Grand Cru. (Drink between 2021-2040)
Still bright in colour, though with a little sediment. There is a huge wealth of sensual fruit, not massively weighty on the palate but the fruit is beautifully accessible and attractive. Few tannins in evidence and there is only just enough acidity. The wine is fully ready to drink now and whilst it may hold, there is little more to be revealed by further keeping.
