Tasting Notes

This excellent offering displays sweet black currant notes intermixed with notions of licorice, scorched earth, and spicy herbs. Medium-bodied and elegant with abundant fruit on the attack and mid-palate, and light to moderate tannin, it should drink well for 10-15 years.

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (171), June 2007

Quite chewy for GPL. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long grapey, currant and berry after taste. This is impressive for the vintage. Xavier Borie, the owner said that they were lucky because their vineyards have a lot of old rootstock and the vines are more precarious. So this helped with such a late harvest

James Suckling, Wine Spectator (April 05), April 2005

Xavier Borie has had an excellent year. Savoury, creamy nose - very dense and compact. Very flattering texture - round with some obvious but very refreshing tannins. Very strong personality, quite dry on the finish but quite bright fruit, very lively. Not big but lovely balance. Very neat. Great gently done. Dry finish but well done for the long term. Very clean and fresh. Drink 2015-30.
