Tasting Notes

Tasted as part of a vertical held at the chateau. The Guiraud 2006 has a floral bouquet with a peppermint-like freshness and vitality - so much that you might think it originates from the New World (not meant pejoratively). The palate is viscous and very well-balanced on the entry with prudently judged acidity cutting through intense mango, marmalade and apricot flavours. There is a superb sense of weight and presence to this Sauternes that should be considered a great success. Drink 2015-2028+ Tasted April 2013.

Sweet lime sherbet with bitter orange notes. Lots of power, sweetness and richness. Some notes of green vegetation on the very back palate but overall a good debut for the new regime. Just a bit hard and green on the finish.

Pale orange-gold. Vibrant aromas of tangerine, pineapple, coconut and brown spices, with a slightly roasted botrytis character. Concentrated and lightly saline, with bright, firm acidity giving a penetrating quality to the pineapple and spice flavors. Offers an exhilarating sugar/acid balance and finishes with lovely lingering spicy perfume. Still a bit youthfully rigid: I'd give this a few years to harmonize. Lafaurie-Peyraguey.

Tasted at the Sauternes 2006 ten-year on horizontal in Bordeaux. The 2006 Guiraud felt a little constricted on the nose, did not quite possess the exuberance or flow of its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with dried quince and marmalade, moderate depth but it tapers in towards the finish. I have encountered better bottles of this in the past - this one was just not performing on the day - therefore I will seek to re-taste in the future.

Tasted blind at Southwold '06 Bordeaux tasting. This has a lovely, well-defined bouquet with honey, lemon curd, quince and a touch of white flowers. Very good lift and expression. The palate is medium-bodied, spicy entry, good level of botrytis will real depth. Marmalade, quince and spice, viscous, botrytis-rich finish. This should age beautifully. Tasted January 2010.

asted with a negotiant. Undoubtedly one of my favourite Sauternes in 2006, juxtaposed against the 2005 I think this is better. The nose takes some coaxing but eventually reveals a delectable bouquet of honey and white flowers. The palate has a crisp entry, a good level of botrytis with racy acidity. Very harmonious with notes of tangerine, honey and a touch of apricot on the mid-palate. Nice fatness to it and impressive length. Excellent. Tasted March 2007.
