Intense aromas of honey, spice and candied lemons. Full-bodied, very sweet and dense, with a syrupy mouthfeel and a long finish. This is very concentrated. Almost classic quality.
Medium to deep straw-gold in color, the 2005 Coutet delivers alluring candied nut scents of praline and honey walnuts over a core of dried apricots and mangos with a touch of pineapple upside-down cake. Full-on hedonic in the mouth, it has opulent layers and just enough freshness, finishing long.
Tasted blind. Very broad and ample on the nose. Rich and burnished. Savoury and exciting. Not that sweet. Going its own way… Very long.
Drink 2018-2034
Full yellow. Orange peel, peach nectar and spicy oak on the nose. Sweet, suave and moderately glyceral, with seamless, complex flavors of peach, lime, coconut and vanilla. Wonderfully fat and sweet but with a vibrant core. This seems much younger than the 2004, and offers excellent potential.
The wine has all the Coutet virtues of scent, delicacy and freshness on the nose. The flavour has more weight than one expects, with fine vinosity and elegance. Very near to being five stars at this point, opulent and smooth. 4 stars
Hint of bronze, blossomy on the nose. Very full and intense and has absolutely MASSES of weight. Unmissable. You could slice this in two. Most impressive. This should live for almost ever. Very neat finish. Acidity well hidden. Drink 2018–35
