Tasting Notes

A beautiful perfume of black raspberries, black cherries, black currants, licorice, damp earth, truffles and asphalt soars from this deep, full-bodied 2008. The tannins are sweet, the concentration level impressive and the wine is round and generous. It is ideal for drinking over the next 15-20 years.

A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, this Chapelle has very fine ripeness on the nose with black cherries, cassis and violets. Very well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, quite assertive tannins, very good structured to the Chapelle this year, but as always imbued with elegance and refinement on the finish. Very fine. Tasted April 2009

Delivers loads of flowers, with rose and lilac. Full-bodied, with crushed blackberry and strawberry, silky tannins and bright fruit. Balanced and pretty. The second wine of Ausone

80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc.Second wine of Ausone. Dark purple. Toasty, spicy, attention-grabbing. Very sweet start then lots of acid. Considerable focus and energy. Very dry finish. A bit like an electric shock. Rich and sweet start. Pretty damned good as a second wine!

One of the finest second wines of Bordeaux, the 2008 La Chapelle d'Ausone exhibits abundant amounts of sweet blackberry and cassis fruit intermixed with hints of ripe cherries, loamy soil, licorice, and earth. This relatively evolved, fleshy, full-bodied beauty should drink well for 15 or more years.Once again, Alain Vauthier has produced a wine that flirts with perfection. As I stated in my bottled 2006 Bordeaux report, over the last decade no proprietor has produced as many virtually perfect wines as Vauthier.
