Hannes Storm makes Vrede from his oldest vines, planted in 2008 with clones 115, 777 and a little 113. Sourced from the rich Bokkeveld shale soils of the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, it’s a denser wine than the 2023 release, with aromas of vanilla, wet earth and stem ginger, lovely balance and texture, plum and pomegranate fruit flavours and graceful tannins. 2026-32.
Storm seems to have shifted the 2024 Pinot Noir Vrede into a higher gear resulting in a wine with greater depth and detail. Piquant on the nose with gorgeous aromatics of redcurrant jelly, mulberries and meat juices, this grows in intensity in the glass, with goji berry, hibiscus tea, craisins and fine, lightly chalky tannins on the long, detailed finish.
From a Hemel-en-Aarde Valley vineyard on shale. Matured for 12 months in 228-litre barrels, 25% new. Intriguing aromatics of red currant, orange, musk, cured meat and white pepper. The palate is rich, possessing both breadth and depth – a wine of big volume without being overbearing. Really detailed, a lovely line of acidity and silky tannins, the finish long and dry.
