The 2024 Riesling Grand Cru Hengst, grown on marl and limestone, includes a densely planted parcel from 2016. Riper, fragrant citrus shimmers shyly in the glass with a touch of yeast still swinging along. The palate is rounded and juicy, carries a lovely whiff of white pepper and feels lemony, lithe, luminous and playful, always with that peppery verve. This is utterly delicious and so approachable. The finish is bone-dry and utterly lip-smacking. (Bone-dry) Drink: 2028-2055
This is a full, rich and typically Alsatian-style Riesling, powerful and honeyed in its aromatics with honeyed stone fruits and a little tropical note together with some honeyed bread. The palate is spicy with pink peppercorn and dried petals. Despite the fuller nature of the wine the acid is on point, driving the palate and refreshing the finish. Intense and long with a good future ahead.
