La Romanée, Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair 2022

Tasting Notes

A perfumed if restrained and cool nose reflects super-fresh and floral-inflected aromas of exceptionally spicy red currant, rose petal, violet, poached plum and exotic pekoe tea. There is a highly refined mouthfeel to the almost lacy middle weight flavors that possess that rare sense of class on the balanced and wonderfully persistent if youthfully austere finish. While perhaps not a candidate for one of the all-time great vintages of La Romanée, this is seriously good all the same and clearly at another level compared to all of the prior wines, excellent though they may be. (Drink starting 2037)

A fine concentrated colour. very intense dark fruit on the nose, the majesty does express itself which isn’t always the case. Sometimes you have to tease it out, but not in 2022. This is perfectly poised between red and black fruit, just lifts as much as it should, heavenly and harmonious.

An exhilarating wine at the highest level, on par with the riveting 2019. There are profuse aromas of red and black fruit, exotic Asian spices, a hint of smoke and a touch of sweet oak spice. Despite its effortlessly silky texture, one appreciates the density and substance with time. It's hard to ask for more wine than this offers. Given the lush texture, it should drink well young but will also age effortlessly for decades. Biodynamic. (Drink between 2030-2080)
