A lovely bright deep ruby, purple in the middle. The 2023 Richebourg starts exuberantly then refines with a greater sense of detail. The fruit swarms across the palate but not in an obstreperous way, with a sensuality to the raspberry that is hard to imagine. There is tannin present, and enough acidity but the fruit covers them both and extends to a remarkable finish. Super sensual and really finely balanced at the same time.
The Anne Gros Richebourg boasts abundant pomegranate and black cherry aromas with hints of rose petals and a salty mineral edge. The texture is remarkably fresh for the vintage, but not at the expense of concentration or complexity. The lively acidity and depth of the wine draw it to an impressively long finish. I find the 2023 more forward and approachable than other 'warm' vintages – really a marvellous success. The grapes are from her 0.60 hectare old vine holding in lieu-dit Les Vérroilles; they are destemmed and gently fermented before aging in cask (30% new). (Drink between 2030-2080)
