Maurizio Anselma’s family bought plots within some of the region’s best vineyards during the 1970s. Somewhat of an enigma, the wines are rarely submitted to critics for tasting but they are some of the very best wines we have tasted from the region. Classic in structure, they and need a lot of time but there is a Musigny-esque perfume and elegance that runs through the range. Highly recommended.
Monforte d'Alba. Cask sample. Pale ruby with orange tinges. Deep, concentrated cherry-and-rose-hip nose. Compact and with plenty of juicy acidity. A mellow (oak?) note or at least from malolactic fermentation and lots of gripping tannins. Closes up underneath the tannic load. Needs time.
