Mid-gold in colour, this blend, based on the 2021 vintage and disgorged December 2023, is fresh and bright, displaying an inviting biscuit and brioche note from the autolysis process; there's a lively expansive mousse on the tongue, a textural quality that helps to deliver on flavour in the granny smith citrus spectrum, all of which adds a bright freshness to the countervailing leesy nuttiness; and it finishes elegantly dry. An archetypal English fizz in the most positive sense.
Estate-grown Dorset fruit. Such a great nose! Apples and hay and pith piqued by bright-yellow lemon zest. Green apple, gold apple, fino-esque nuttiness. I find it quite manzanilla-like … Then winemaker Tommy Grimshaw tells me that some of the blend comes from a barrel which developed a flor. Salty and so damn delicious. It's not at all conventional, but it's not weird and it's not too off-piste. racy and complete. I love this. And it's VGV. Drink 2024-2030.
