Charmes Chambertin Les Mazoyeres, Domaine Georges & Christophe Roumier 2022

Tasting Notes

The 2022 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is showing especially well, wafting from the glass with aromas of sweet red berries and plums mingled with orange zest, violets and spices. Medium to full-bodied, ample and suave, with a cool core of pure, succulent fruit structured around melting tannins, it's elegant and harmonious, concluding with a long, floral finish.

Red to crimson in colour, deeper than the Echezeaux, crisper on the palate, with red berry fruit, a little strawberry, a touch of pepper again, slightly more body and length. Less floral than the Echezeaux, slightly more substance. Attractively floral aromatics left in the empty glass.

An equally fresh and slightly earthier combination consists of plum, rose petal and green tea plus a healthy dollop of wood influence. There is even better volume to the nicely rich and caressing large-scaled flavors that terminate in a moderately austere and impressively long finish. Even though this is not super-dense, there is still good power and it too should repay extended keeping. (Drink starting 2034)
