The 2023 Morgon Côte du Py is the blend from six hectares of parcels from various contour lines upon the hill. It has a complex bouquet with mineral-driven red fruit, hints of iodine and pressed violet, wonderfully defined and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with a sapid entry and firm backbone, but this exudes tension and energy. Veins of blood orange run through the composed and persistent finish. Wonderful. Drink between 2027-2042.
A fabulous vintage for Burgaud, his best since the 2020. Mid-deep ruby in the glass with an intense nose of dried strawberries, violets and cherry blossom. The palate is succulent, rounded and glossy in fruit as Gamay should be, with the depth of iron and pithy tannin synonymous with Côte du Py. Joyous, with intense fruit, hints of cherry jam and strawberry tart cut by subtle savoury, dried spices and herbs. Long and primary on the finish, you can absolutely drink this now, but it will evolve nicely in bottle for over a decade. Lots of wine for the money.
