Chambertin, Domaine Denis Mortet 2006

Tasting Notes

Unlike some Gevrey grands crus in 2006 that are affected by geosmin, this is entirely clean and pure with its pretty spice and floral notes that add a touch of elegance to cool and earthy red pinot fruit aromas that are still relatively primary. There is fine volume to the highly complex and overtly powerful mineral-inflected flavors that possess excellent density and an attractively textured mouth feel on the impressively long finish where once again there is just enough warmth present to warrant mentioning. This has reached a point in its evolution where it hasn't quite reached its full apogee yet it's not so far away that it couldn't be enjoyed now. In sum, this is an excellent '06.
