Tasting Notes

The bottled version of the 2019 Rozas 1er Cru was a bit shy when poured. But with some time in the glass, the florality of Rozas emerged. Tighter than other warm vintages like 2015 or 2017, it has notes of sweet spices and red translucent berries. They waited until after the rains to pick the grapes, and this was harvested in October; then, they had to sort and discard some grapes, as the harvest was quite complicated after the rain. This had a longer élevage, a further six months in concrete and one oak vat to polish the tannins. It has pungent flavors and a persistence that defies the apparent ethereal character of the wine. It was a low-yielding vintage of 5,195 bottles and 200 magnums that were filled in June 2021. Warmer years need more time in bottle.

A perfumed garnacha with aromas of redcurrants, melon, pomegranate, lemon and rosemary. Medium-bodied with fine tannins and lively acidity. Bright and pure. Juicy and fleshy with soft power. Balanced and delicate with an infused character. Spicy and flavorful, long finish. Drinkable now, but a year or two in bottle will make it even better.
