The 1950 Rivesaltes has an enticing marine-influenced bouquet with touches of kelp infusing the detailed and focused aromas of quince, Satsuma and Japanese yuzu. The palate has impressive balance and harmony, lovely touches of brown spice, Barsac-derived barley sugar and quince. There is impressive depth and vigour towards the finish. A completely quite wonderful Rivesaltes. Tasted with Philippe Gayral. 2018 - 2030
Lively, brownish, greenish. Light, treacly nose. Some pungency. Seaweed notes. Quite interesting. Light and lively. Dry finish.
Drink 2017-2021
The 1950 Rivesaltes, which came from cask barrel, had a more complex bouquet compared to the 1951 or 1952, with a light marine, seaweed influence that is very attractive. I admire the detail here, the focus. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity that counterbalances the lightly spiced honeyed fruit, segueing into a cohesive and harmonious finish offering brown spices, dried quince and a touch of barley sugar. This is a gorgeous Rivesaltes that is one of the best that I have tasted from Domaine La Sobilane. Drink 2017-2035.
