This is notably ripe and not quite as fresh as the Chaumes with its floral-inflected nose of liqueur of dark cherry and wide range of spice elements. There is excellent richness to the impressively concentrated medium-bodied flavors that possess a velvety, even suave mouth feel before culminating in a balanced and complex finale that delivers just a bit more persistence.
The 2014 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Suchots has a quintessential Suchots bouquet, much more outgoing and vibrant than the 2014 Les Chaumes with plenty of red cherries, fresh strawberry and spice. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, beautifully balanced and pure, belying the structure towards the finish that suggests this will give ten to 15 years of pleasure, possibly more. This is a controlled, very sophisticated Les Suchots that will age with style.
